The murder of four marines and one sailor in Chattanooga, TN this past week is heartbreaking. We need to face a simple fact: evil is running rampant in our nation, and our leaders seem to be unwilling or unable to do anything about it. As a people, a nation, and as part of the church, we need God more than ever before. 2 Chronicles 7:14, reads, If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. The Lord showed me just this morning that He wants us to pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways not because He will hear and forgive our sin and heal our land, but because we love Him and want to honor and please Him. Sure, we can do pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways and expect Him to do these things, but we should not seek Him just to receive. If we have children, we want them to obey us and honor us because they love us and want to please us, not because they want to receive “goodies” from us. God should be able to expect no less from us.
